IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Exciting upgrades are coming soon! The Electronic Submission System (ESS) for OHRP’s IRB registration and FWA registries will undergo system upgrades that require scheduled downtime on May 15, 2024, beginning at 7:30 PM EST. This will be followed by a post-launch maintenance window on May 16. We expect the system to be fully functional on May 17. If you are planning an initial or renewal application prior to May 15, we strongly encourage you to complete and submit as soon as possible, and no later than 5:00 PM EST on May 10, 2024. Filing of an Update/Renewal FWA

To obtain an electronic submission number, please enter:

  1. Your institution's FWA number; i.e., FWAxxxxxxxx
  2. The LAST NAME (spelled exactly) of the Signatory Official and the Human Protections Administrator on the currently OHRP-approved FWA.
  3. The e-mail address that you will be using for this submission.
  4. A password that contains:
    • at least (1) uppercase letter
    • at least (1) lowercase letter
    • at least (1) number or special character (ex. !@#$&)
    • a minimum of 7 characters, and a maximum of 15 characters
  5. A password hint (50 characters max) using only letters and numbers, with no special characters.
  6. Please make sure that you can receive messages from OHRPElectronicSubmissionSystem@mail.nih.gov
  7. A submission number will be sent to you immediately by e-mail.
